Pen drive containing strategic data about Uttarlai airbase lost

Barmer, July 31 (UNI)

A suitcase containing confidential documents and strategically important information related to Air Force base in Uttarlai was lost from the border areas of Barmer.

Police later recovered the suitcase containing important documents and CDs, but could not trace the pen drive which contained important data.

Superintendent of Police Laman Rai Rathore said Air Force ground engineer Rajeev Garg had lodged a complaint at the police station that he lost his suitcase on July 25 when he was on his way from Barmer to Ahmedabad.

Meanwhile, police recovered the suitcase when the team had gone for defusing the mortar bomb found in the firing range in Barmer.

Police recovered two CDs containing important strategic information but could not find the pen drive which was full of important strategic data about the Uttarlai Air Force station.

Police are looking for the pen drive.

This is the latest in the hi-tech "scams" in the defence Ministry. After the scandulous war room leak, which is said to have resulted in the leak of counter strategy plans  fo the next 20 years, data from the various naval war exercises with various countries, data on findings by the US after the joint exercises in the North East and Leh and even valuable data on Israel, it appears ridiculous that people can be walking around with data in suitcases.

Defence Ministry is now moving towards thin client machines. CCTVs have been installed in every room as well.

But as usual it's dismissed.

All it takes to get data from the defence is seems, if reports are to be believed is a bottle of whisky and a honey trap.

considering such a thing happened at Barmer, can it be seen as a possible fallout of opening of rail link between Barmer (India) and Mirpur Khas (Pakistan).  Security experts were apprehensive that opening up of rail link my have possible security implications, and we have an example here already.
