Hi Fellow Airneter(India)-ians! Namaste!

I would like to know how fellow members' experiences have been flying TG from India to BKK.

I was thinking of flying TG from Bangalore(BLR)-Bangkok(BKK) in Nov'06.

Which routes have you flown on and your comments would be appreciated! Also if anyone has flown BLR-BKK how are the loads? I notice that the flight is daily now...well its kind of odd as its daily BKK-BLR and then some days twice daily( midnight and 10:45pm) returning and some days none BLR-BKK. operated by A300-600

Also from the US I seem to be getting a fare of $380 or Rs.17000.  Is that overpriced, will it be cheaper to just purchase the ticket in India? Anyone know the rate fares to BKK arefrom BLR or other points?---Thanks

Hi VM,

I have flown this sector (BLR-BKK-BLR) numerous times in the past. The loads are rarely very high. Sample seat availability over the past week is indicated here:

12-Jul C4 D4 J4 Z4 Y4 B4 M4 H4 Q4 T4 K4 S4 V0 W4 M
13-Jul C3 D2 J0 Z0 Y9 B9 M9 H9 Q9 T9 K9 S9 V9 W6 E
14-Jul C0 D0 J0 Z0 Y3 B1 M0 H0 Q0 T0 K0 S0 V0 W0 F
15-Jul C9 D9 J9 Z9 Y0 B0 M0 H0 Q0 T0 K0 S0 V0 W0 F
16-Jul C9 D9 J9 Z9 Y5 B5 M5 H5 Q5 T5 K5 S5 V5 W5 M
17-Jul C9 D9 J9 Z9 Y9 B9 M9 H9 Q9 T8 K8 S8 V8 W0 E
18-Jul C9 D9 J9 Z9 Y9 B9 M9 H9 Q9 T6 K6 S6 V5 W0 M
19-Jul C9 D9 J9 Z9 Y9 B9 M9 H9 Q9 T9 K9 S9 V9 W9 E
20-Jul
21-Jul C9 D9 J9 Z9 Y0 B0 M0 H0 Q0 T0 K0 S0 V0 W0 F

Where the last column has my take on the loads (E-Empty, F-Full, M-Medium).

Nothing great in terms of service, drinks/snacks soon after take off, followed by dinner (reasonably tasty), and then a few hours of shuteye followed by landing in BKK. The crew operates both sectors (BKK-BLR and then BLR-BKK), and are quite friendly if you are friendly to them. I wrote a short TR on this a while back: http://www.airliners.net/discussions/trip_reports/read.main/61404

Unfortunately my travel on TG has come to an end - since they have changed the timing of their LAX flights so now there's a 17 hours stopever in BKK in both directions

A fare of 17K is "reasonable", though there are cheaper fares (the W fare code is normally 10K +taxes - but only 50% miles).TR on A.net

Hi Fellas!

My first post here. Great site! Surely A.net is losing its customers.

Back to the topic. Any info on IC's special "South India Darshan" flight to Bangkok? Is it still on? Does it still operate? IIRC, it used to do BOM-HYD-BLR-MAA-BKK on Mondays. God help the poor Bambaiwallah pax who had to endure four hard landings!!

Offcourse mate thats common sense. But then i dont think this wud eventually KILL IC,s flight thanks to our never dying sastee airline kaunse hai (which one is a cheaper airline) mentality.

TG is indeed really gud. Infact i am flying into DEL this time with TG after a 4 nites stopover in BKK on 6th August so guys expect plenty of pics and a nice trip report showcasing the hidden pleasures and delights of the oriental east pretty soon.

My only complaint is the non exsistant PTV,s on their 777-300 aircraft which in most cases is operated to DEL & BOM.

IA's quality isn't cheap. No way. There may not be many of the bells and whistles, but it's comfortable. It's also passenger behaviour that affects crew behaviour.

Junglee Indian passengers are there on any carrier. You can't change that mentality. It's in the genes.

I fly TG from CCU atleast 4-5 times a year sometimes justto BKK and sometimes carrying on to HKG. On every occasion their flight to and from CCU has been overloaded. The last time i was waiting at Bangkok airport awaiting departure call they made an announcement that they needed 14 persons to volunatrily offload and fly the next day.

TG has been flying regularly to CCU for the last couple of decades or more and have regularly recorded loads above 95%. They currently operate with a AB6 aircraft but do at times replace it the A333 on days with very heavy loads. The crowd normally is a mix of local Indian shopkeepers, students and tourists.Previously the crowd behavious would be attrocious but on my last 6-7 trips i have noticed a more sensible mix of crowd with young entrepreneurs and students headed for the USA.

This flight is currently 5 times a week at a bad time of well beyond midnight. However during winter months Thai increases the frequency to daily and they intend to make this a permanent event once the new Indo-Thai bilaterals come into effect early next year.

I think Thai is one of the more profitable airlines operating from Kolkata.

Hi,

I flew TG from AKL to DEL via BKK in Nov and back in Feb. BKK-DEL was on A332 and DEL-BKK was on 777. I prefer the 332 in Y mainly because the window seats are two seats and not 3 unlike the 777. However if you are seated on the aisle, it does feel like passengers brush past you up and down the aisle.

In terms of service in this sector, no PTV so I guess IC and TG would be pretty much the same except for food where IC would be better.

Also if flying from BLR I believe they still use AB6, which may not be the best of a/c to fly. But then doesnt really make too much of difference in a short sector.

Bottom line I guess is frm BKK to India, if I had to choose between IC and TG, it would depend on price as service is comparable.

Cheers

Shub

PS - The AKL-BKK flight on TG is marvellous though on swanky new A346 with AVOD. Didnt take any pictures otherwise would have written a trip report.

The TG flight into BOM is almost always an A330-300!

Dude I flew TG frm AKL BKK as I decribed. Also NZ does not fly to BKK any more and yeah ure right they dropped SIN as well as they could not compete with SQ. I think main reason for tht was most passengers to SIN were going onward and SQ could provide them wid connections tht NZ could not. NZ has actually withdrawn quite a bit frm Asia, however they have strtd PEK and PVG. Also strong rumors tht they may fly to India soon. Initially as a one stop using either 744 or 763 via Australia most prob but later when the 787 arrivesthe flt will prob become non stop.

If you get a good price the A380, take SQ INDIA-SIN-AKL or CHC or you can fly into AKL and out of CHC to see North and South Ilands of NZ.  SQ is amazing!

Otherwise maybe yoou can take MH thru KUL but I cant remember if they fky to NZ.....

Or get to Australia and there are many option from there.....and if its late in the winter then u might even get the new A380 on the SIN-SYD route if Airbus ever is ready to hand the plane over to SQ!!!!!!!!!!!

A380 ji

You are flying on the verge of the peak season so if u choose ur dates carefully, you might still get the cheap fares.

Other than TG i would definitely suggest SQ or even CX, both are excellent although SQ has avod and may be a shorter flight overall. You could also try MH, they are supposed to be good and fly KUL-AKL nonstop but wudnt make sense if u want FF points

A J class ticket off peak would cost u NZD 5000 to 7000( x Rs 30) depending on the airline. Y would be NZD 1500(rs 45000)off peak to NZD 2500( 80000) plus taxes peak.

Hope that helps. Also do give me buzz when ure coming

Cheers

Shub

Guys currently in BKK flew frm Sydney Yesterday nite arrived at 10:34 local thai time by TG996 Boeing 747-400 . The plane was dissappointing in terms of IFE as there were not PTVs.. Only projector. They showed 3 movies MI3 and other two dont remember . Saw the AI A310 being towed to a remote stand it reminded that i am much more closer to home nw..

Luckily i had my James Frey novel to keep me occupied otherwise TG is gud than AI and IC because condition of planes are better, meals better , and plenty of booze and drinks flowing in the flight..

will give a TR once back in Delhi...

Thai Airways to increase flights from Kolkata ; plans to touch Hyderabad and Gaya
Permalink Closed

Thai Airways to increase flights from Kolkata

Kolkata, Aug 09 (UNI) Thai Airways will operate ten new flights a week from Delhi and Mumbai in the coming year.

Speaking at a seminar on ’Enhancing Indo-Thai Business Prospects’ organised by Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry here today, Thai Consul General Manop Mekprayoonthong said, ‘‘We plan to increase our daily flights from Kolkata and Chennai. We are also looking forward to operating 10 new flights a week from Delhi and Mumbai.’’

Thai Airways has planned to start new flights from Hyderabad and Bodh-Buddha-Gaya as their next destinations at the end of October 2006, he said.

The company has also planned to make 11 tourist destinations in India, out which five to six had already been opened, he added.

Currently the total number of passengers from India to Thailand in 2006 was 400,000 in 2006.

The number of Indo-Thai flights have also increased over the years from eight in 2001 (from Delhi and Kolkata) to 30 flights per week in 2006. Currently Thai Airways operate daily flights from Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi while five flights a week from Kolkata and four from Chennai.

BNCCI Presidet Nayantara Pal Choudhury said that Indo-Thai trade has also increased substantially over the years. It has crossed US 2 billion dollars mark. Indian exports to Thailand increased from 910.02 million in 2004-05 to 1062.10 million dollars in 2005-06, registering a growth of 17.88 per cent. While imports also grew at the rate of 38.8 per cent in 2005-06.
