Nice site, great work especially for the aviation fraternity in India.
Now ppl are starting to notice INDIA and yes, seriously.
In fact at a recent IATA Fueling group meeting, ppl asked me about the spotting facilities in India.....wow........
I feel we should have a link which would have mention like....NEW POSTS SINCE LAST VISIT and then one has the option to read and reply and post rather than going back and assessing.

yes that is represened by the Icon. If you've noticed then the Icon of thread with unread/recent post is different.

Its an icon....not a link which would refresh and make topics where there have been replies available

one possible solution would be that you go to your profile and there click on the threads where you've posted last. It won't help if you've just read and had not posted.
Sorry, but there are only so much options made available by the service provider.

Anything we ppl can chip in to make the site a better and a more interactive one.....

among other things I miss is spell check. unfortunately, we have upgraded to highest possible level... the other option being that we change the service provider, but that comes even greater set of problems.
All the archives/thread are lost.
Gathering all the members to the new place, and have them register all over again.
Who knows we might loose certain features we like so much.
I was also wondering if we make the site payable (Not pay when able) so that we can chip in financially too to make the site more vibrant and yes user friendly and dynamic.
After all guys.............this is the first aviation site in India to hit big time......
i think aseem has taken a great step in starting this website. I have written to him and told him that i would like to make an investment in this site. I mean if we can decide what we want and how to achieve it, i would be glad to pump in some money into this website.
I have a feeling that this site has extreme potential. and the best is that we have the best people for the job who are already members. Even if it means starting a whole new website, i think it may be worth it. Not right away, we can discuss the matter and come up with ideas and propose them to all the members and get feedback.
I think this is the make or break time for airliners-india.net. We got the awesome domain name.
Please dont get me wrong by thinking i am criticizing aseems work, i am just looking towards the future.
regards
nitin
PS: please send suggestions, and aseem, great job and lets work together.
sorry for the delay in reply to your PM, but it'd be better if I reply over here. I am all too keen to expand this forum, and share your enthu about it.
The problem is that we already have all the options that are available via this service provider. So, there is nothing we can have by paying more. I'd like to thank everybody for their support (irrespective of whether one is in a position to provide financial help or not).
How about going into specifics of what exactly we want? Please carry on..
* Move to running our own "software" for the bulletin boards. That way we can do things like airport/airline highlighting etc. I have no idea about what we'd use, but I'm sure there must be plenty of standard PhP/MySQL type of software available as a starting point. * Run the software on our own dedicated servers - but in a hosting farm. This gives us control on what we do with the software and allows us to scale the hardware. * Eventually move the hosting also in-house.
In the interim, the other options are to:
* Look for an alternate hosting provider - I'm sure there must be other chaps with hosted bulletin boards. But we'll have to deal with the mess of starting from scratch at the other site, since I'm doubtful if activeboard provides a mechanism to export accounts and message histories (Aseem - any idea?) * Grin and bear it
Everytime I click on a link (say a post by someone), it opens the link in the same window, is it possible to change the settings in a way that whenever a link is clicked that needs to take you to a site outside of anet-india, it does it in a new window ?

thanks for your suggestion, but the current service provider does not give that much flexibility. You can do it on your own if you have basic knowledge of HTML, but again it shall not be something by default
BTW!! I am seriously contemplating a new interface and will definately incorporate your suggestion in that. It may take time, but it something that ticking in my head.

Pls look at Moving posts from here to the New Forum rather than clean slating the new one.
BTW the Qoute function does not pick the selected line but the Entire post.Pls check.
