Patel flays doubts on Boeing MRO

Monday, June 26, 2006 at 0000 hours IST

NAGPUR, JUNE 25:  Civil aviation minister Praful Patel today dismissed speculations about shifting of the much-talked-about maintenance repair overhaul (MRO) base project of aircraft major Boeing from the city to other states.
“There is no question of shifting of MRO of boeing from the city to other states although some states were vying to bag the project but boeing vice-president Dinesh Kesar had made a formal announcement here sometime back, laying to rest all speculations,” Patel told reporters here.

The Seattle-based aircraft manufacturer had committed to set up a MRO in India as part of their commitment in lieu of procurement of aircraft for domestic carrier Indian and international carrier Air-India, Patel said.

“Accordingly, after studying feasibility report and economic viability and other aspects including central location in the country, Nagpur has been finally selected,” Patel added. “There is no going back,” he said.

On the much-hyped multi-modal international passenger and cargo hub project, Mihan, Patel said, during the proposed visit of Prime minister Manmohan Singh to Vidarbha later this week, Singh would be “impressed upon to announce setting up the cargo hub”, which will change the economic-investment scenario of not only the second capital of Maharashtra but the entire Vidarbha region.

Suppose Boeing does that, will the NCP withdraw support to the UPA.

And notice how Mr. Prakash Karat has fallen silent after Bengal's Buddha has bagged the Tata car project, the Reliance project, and now the Dubai Smart City that was meant for Kerala.

One of the main reasons for selecting Nagpur as the base for Boeing MRO is its centralised location and easy accessibilty from all parts of India

And the Praful Factor. Please don;t discount that.

Airbus' MRO will also appear there or at Gondia (Praful's fortress).

Same case with the proposed cargo hub.

Wow - another criminal waste of India's money (if this is true)!! 11 A320s grounded for lack of money to pay for spares.

I guess the silver lining is that at least IC is not flying around with defective a/c.

How are they managing their schedules/frequencies if they have 11 A320's grounded? Does not sound very logical to me.

The a/c are grounded because IAE has stopped providing spares on credit after IC opted for CFM engines on the new a/c.
IC should have renegotiated the payment terms with IAE instead of allowing it's a/c to remain grounded for want of spares.
It is a sad sight to see 10 A320s parked at IC MX area at DEL. Reminds of the time when that moron Mufti Mohmad grounded the A320s in 1990.

Grounding may have to do with this:

Refurbishment Of A320/V2500-A1 Engine C-Duct Goodrich P/N: 740-0004-Xxx, (Inner Fixed Structure) And Translating Sleeve P/N 740-0006-Xxx

Think it's Arif Mohammed Khan.

Times of India March 2, 1990

The five-member expert committee announced by Civil Aviation
Minister Arif Mohammed Khan, would go into Indian Airlines' state
of preparedness to safely operate the Airbus.  ...

The issue of the Airbus' safety has become a national one with
important newspapers making editorial comments.  The Indian press
has urged the Indian government to thoroughly examine the safety
aspects of the plane before allowing [it] to fly once again.   ...
