An Indian (Indian Airlines) plane from Delhi landed in emergency conditions at the international airport in Kolkata on Tuesday night and was searched by anti-explosive experts looking for bombs after an anonymous telephone call said the aircraft would be blown up.
The person, who made a hoax bomb call to the NSCBI airport last evening, has been traced and arrested by the police.
24 parganas (North) SP Pravin Kumar that Debanjan Ganguly (28), a resident of Maniktala in north Kolkata and an employee of a call centre under Hare Street police station was traced this morning from the number which was recorded in the call location machine installed at the airport.
Ganguly rang up the office of the Airport Director at about 1920 hours thrice yesterday, claiming that a bomb would explode on the evening flight of ’Indian’ IC-402 that would be leaving Kolkata for Delhi later that evening.
However, a thorough search of the aircraft revealed nothing.
Any idea why the bugger did this? Did he have his girlfriend leaving on this flight as well??

Kolkata, Jun 21 (PTI) An employee in a local call centre was arrested today for making a hoax call warning of a bomb planted in an Indian flight from Kolkata to Delhi here last night.
The call made in Hindi saying that the aircraft would be blown up caused the Indian flight IC264, with 123 passengers from Delhi on board, to land in emergency conditions at the international airport here late last night.
The caller identified as 28-year-old Debanjan Ganguly, a resident of North Kolkata’s Manicktala area, was picked up from his house after the call to the Airports Authority of India office was traced to a central Kolkata PCO from the number on the Caller Line Identity, the police said.
He was stated to be an employee in a call centre in central Kolkata’s Hare street area.
The man confessed that he had made the call, said North 24 Parganas district Superintendent of Police Praveen Kumar.
He was remanded to five days’ police custody after being produced before a North 24 Parganas district court during the day.
Anti-explosive experts, aided by snifer dogs, after searched the aircraft but found no explosive in the plane which returned to Delhi after midnight.
DUBLIN (Reuters) - Dublin airport evacuated staff and passengers from its main terminal building on Tuesday after a man walked into the arrivals hall saying he had a bomb.
"There has been an evacuation of the landside areas of the airport building due to a bomb scare," Dublin Airport Authority spokesman Vincent Wall said.
London - An inebriated man who joked after boarding an Air India flight to Delhi at the Birmingham International Airport on June 11 that he had a bomb has been banned from the airport.
The unnamed man had taken his seat on the flight when airline staff alerted the police, who took him into custody. The man, who is also reported to be unstable, has not been charged with any offence but has been issued with an exclusion order banning him from the airport.
An airport spokeswoman said: ‘The man who boarded a flight on Tuesday while making claims he had a bomb on him was removed from both the plane and airport. He was issued with an exclusion order banning him from the airport, including taking flights from here.
‘The airport takes these matters very seriously. Passenger security is of paramount importance to us.’
A spokesman for Air India said: ‘The man was mentally unstable. Just before he boarded the aircraft he made a statement that he had a bomb.
‘The airport manager called me to ask what to do. We can’t risk the life of our passengers so we off-loaded him and handed him over to the police.’
A West Midlands Police spokesman added: ‘The terminal duty manager at the airport issued the man with an exclusion order, which means that he won’t be able to return to the airport.’
CHENNAI: An anonymous call that three Malaysian militants were to travel by a Lufthansa flight to Frankfurt sent security officials into a tizzy at the airport here.
The call on Thursday night turned out to be a hoax and the flight took off more than three hours late, airport sources said on Friday.
A Lufthansa airlines official had received the call on an inter-com saying that "militants, all Malaysian nationals", were about to board the flight, scheduled to leave here at 10.30 PM.
The official immediately informed the airport security officials, who made a thorough check of the passengers, only to find that the persons mentioned by the caller did not exist, they added.
Bomb scare at NSCBI airport, Biman airlines cancelled

Security was tightened at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) airport today after a bomb scare.
Airport sources said an unidentified caller rang up Assistant Commissioner, Customs, around 1400 hrs, warning him in English that two Bangladesh Biman flights from Dhaka contained RDX explosives.
However, one of the flights PG 091 from Dhaka had already arrived at 1000 hrs and subsequently left for Bangladesh capital.
The second flight PG 093 is also expected from Dhaka in the evening.
The entry of visitors to the airport had been banned earlier for security reasons, airport sources said adding following the telephonic call security agencies had been asked to be specially alert.
The flight was eventually cancelled as learnt from the airport sources.
Bangladesh Biman authorities fearing a vigorious search of the aircraft and passengers at Kolkata cancelled the flight.

3 packets found in Bangladesh Airline plane
Three unclaimed packets were today found in a Bangladesh Airlines Biman flight from Chittagong with 67 people on board after it landed here amidst full emergency condition following a phone call that RDX has been planted in the plane.
‘‘Three unclaimed packets were recovered during thorough search by security agencies inside the aircraft (BG-697) from Chittagong,’’ Airports Authority of India’s Regional Executive Director S P S Bakshi told PTI.
He said the packets were sent to the cooling pit to examine if they contained explosives.
The aircraft, Bakshi said, has been cleared for return to Dhaka after the search.
All 62 passengers and five crew members on the flight were taken out of the aircraft which was taken to an isolation bay immediately after it touched down at the NSC Bose International Airport here at around 4.40 pm.
All the passengers were frisked and their baggage checked by security agencies.

Another Bangladesh Biman flight, with 62 passengers on board, landed at the airport at around 10:30 pm, four hours behind the scheduled time of 6;40 pm, airport sources said.
The delay was due to thorough security check at Dhaka airport following the information by Kolkata air traffic control (ATC) regarding the bomb threat call.
Personnel of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and police cordoned off the aircraft and a search was continuing for explosives, the sources said.
The plane was being checked at a bay in international terminal and not taken to the isolation bay like the Chittagong-Kolkata Biman flight, AAI sources said.
The flight also accomodated passengers of another Bangladesh Biman plane, the sources said.
The flight will take off after necessary clearance following the check.
Meanwhile airport sources said it could take minimum 24 hours (rpt 24 hours) to examine the three unclaimed packets kept in cooling pit after being found in the other Biman flight from Chittagong in the afternoon.
Two airport staff held for planning tissue-box plant in plane
New Delhi, Aug 14 (UNI) Two employees of the Indira Gandhi airport were detained following information they were planning to plant a mystery tissue box in an Air Deccan flight.
The two identified as Satya Dev and Musharat Hussain were immediately whisked away for questioning, informed sources said.
They said the two were detained after some airport staff overheard them discussing planting a tissue box on board an Air Deccan flight.
They were being interrogated by the Delhi Police and Central security agencies.
In a separate incident, four Bangaldeshis, believed to be illegal immigrants, have also been detainted for questioning here.
Security is at its highest level in the national capital following threats of terror, especially from Bangladesh-based outfits like Harkat-ul-Jehandi Islamia (HuJI) and Jamait-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).
