British Airways has won the title of Airline of the Year 2006 at the annual World Airline Awards. LAST YEAR IT WAS four places down. The Tv report said the top airlines for 2006 are: British Airways; Qantas Airways; Cathay Pacific; Thai Airways; Emirates (really bad show); Qatar Airways; Singapore Airlines (very very bad); ANA; Malaysia Airlines and China Airlines.
BBC belongs to UK so does BA i feel some connection there but yes QF, TG are good players any ranks for Virgin Atlantic
This is the result of the World Airline Survey. BBC was just announcing it!!
Check the British Airways website after some time. And watch out for some new advertisements on TV. Their last one was really nice. Getting 1,200 people to form a smiling face and then have the eye wink. Was done by Satchii.
But BA is average. Remember the last time flying with them when told that the only food option was Beef or Mutton. (Booking clearly mentioned food choice but something happened on the London-Boston sector). It was repeated again in a nasty tone. Was equally nasty and settled for biscuits, the rice minus the beef and four cartons of juice. Was really glad to get off.
On the Chennai-London sector, it's the most preferred airline to use to head West and is usually packed. Announcements are in English, Tamil and Hindi. But the Indian cabin crew are restricted from first class. Couldn't believe it. Get paid much less also!
Emirates and SQ rate better. SQ is warm. Helps flying an Asian carrier that has an international outlook.
Anyway, other people say BA is the best for this year!!!
MEL it has alot to do with a persons racial or ethnicity. Qantas has been rated by Skytrax as the 2nd best airline but i havent had a good experience from them. i took their 747-300 from Bom to Syd and the service was absolutely pathetic.
I still remember when i asked for a glass of water i was told that they were serving biz class pax and hence shouldnt be bothered.
At the same time SQ was fantastic. Plenty of booze heineken, tiger, victoria bitter , red & white wines.
I will second that vabby, as my job involves travelling, I always prefer SQ to any other European or American carrier. SQ is warm even though may be a bit artifical but 100% warm. I flew KLM business class to Europe and I found the service equivalent to economy class.

Just like Sri, i too second that comment, if i have a choice to fly and SQ is flying that route i will not think twice before flying them especially as they think of you even in economy class.
Premium cabins, unlike SRI i had a rewarding experience on GF air in First Class and was treated like as though i was a King on their London flight.
Will post a trip report as soon as i can write it [about 200 photos and 8 segments]
