It seems that Delhi based SpiceJet might not have grand plans unlike its competition AirDeccan but is definately planning to provide a reliable service at an affordable cost. I guess SG has and upperhand over DN in regards to reliability. Below is a press update which talks about their roleplay in the future growing indian aviation industry..
Hyderabad , June 1
Low-cost airline SpiceJet will induct 23 new aircraft by the end of 2008, as part of its efforts to expand and reach more destinations in the country. At present, it has a fleet of 6 aircraft and operates 49 daily flights.
The new aircraft would be Boeing 737, 800 series, wide-bodied with capacity to have 189 all economy class passenger seats.
The airline is in the process of firming up funding mechanisms to buy the aircraft, the Associate Vice-President (Marketing & Planning), Mr Sanjay Kumar, told newspersons here today.
SpiceJet, which has completed a full year of operations, carried 1.6 million passengers during the year, with a high load factor of over 86 per cent. It caters to 11 destinations daily offering 8,900 seats and has a market share of 6 per cent, he said.
More destinations
Once, the acquisition of the new aircraft is completed, the airline would have a fleet of 29 planes, operate over 250 flights to reach 24 destinations and offer 35,000 seats per day. By end of 2006, 11 new aircraft are expected to be purchased and inducted, Mr Kumar said.
The airline is well prepared to meet growing competition in the low-cost, no frills market. "It has also established the reliability and service efficiency within a short span of time," Mr Kumar said.
Courier services
At present, passenger services are the main focus of the airline, though on-board courier services have been recently launched in a small way.
In addition to the concentration on metros, SpiceJet also will open new routes and connect Tier-I & II cities.
SpiceJet has also signed up with over 65 Spice Shops across the country.
These Shops allow customers to make a phone booking and pay at these locations. A network of 3,400 travel agents to make bookings has been established.
Even though Spicejet through its branding and classy interiors appears as an upmarket airline, it is also prone to the same problems as other LCCs. I have been the victim of their delays and rescheduling more than once.
This problem was compounded during the monsoons. The main problem is the lack of buffer aircraft and extremely tight turnaround times. Spicejet planes are barely stationary for an hour before they set out again. So even a ten-fifteen minute delay starts a chain reaction delaying subsequent flights.
Low cost carrier, SpiceJet is believed to be in talks to sell some stake to the ruler of Ras al-Khaimah, which is part of the UAE. Despite dismal market conditions, there still seems to be interest in aviation stocks, reports CNBC-TV18.
SpiceJet seems to be in demand. Suitors with investment proposals are apparently lining up. But the carrier is believed to be in talks with the ruler of Ras al-Khaimah to sell some stake in the company. Sources say the deal may be worth about 20 million dollars for a 10% stake.
But SpiceJet officials say no talks are under way with any investor. They admitted though, that after Air Deccan's listing, SpiceJet had three or four investment proposals from various parties and the airline was evaluating the proposals. They said nothing had been finalised yet.
If this deal goes through SpiceJet would be valued at about USD 200 million. Air Deccan is similarly valued, but it has a larger fleet and network.
Industry experts say that SpiceJet should wait for market conditions to improve so that it gets a better valuation. They say airlines are not, by and large, attractive stocks anyway and such a market would hardly help valuations.
Well 've once in Spice from BOM to DEL flight was delayed by 25mins but we were informed by them for a delay of 30mins.. so 5mins earlier than their delayed schedule
Flown once in IT my flight was on time expect for 5mins delay
I agree in the case of IC

hey guys i just came back from CCU on the 25th and i flew spicejet on this leg.the DEL-CCU leg was on kingfisher.both flts were amazing kingfisher with its ptvs and gr8 food was v.good but offcourse they charged for it.SG on the other hand was miles ahead when compared to DN.infact we reached DEL 20 mins before STA.I wud have to say that if SG grew at the pace DN has been by ordering and recruiting planes i am sure DN would have been on the verge of a collapse.and even the air hostesess were much better than DN.Interestingly the flight 100% full suggests that SG are doing well on this route compared to DN.
