Air India Express --flight reviews
Permalink Closed

Air India Express seems to be an eye-catcher as far as its livery goes, but these two reports on its inflight service (not a first-hand account) seem disappointing. These were forwarded to Air India Express and Air India for comment, but its been 12 days. A deafening silence.

Any comments?

Air India Express-

6 May 2006

My third flight on IX (from Dubai to Cochin), and quite possibly my last. It appears that there is no cabin maintenance at all. Most seat cushions badly soiled - as if the plane had been used to carry livestock. No paper or cloth covers for the head rests. Carpet in a filthy and lamentable state throughout the cabin. At first I thought the window I was sitting next to was covered in a layer of condensation. I then found out it was a film of grease and grime, with the window frame covered in a brownish substance containing lots of human hair. (This aircraft was the one with winglets)

Air India Express

30 November 2005

Air India Express from Cochin to Dubai on 25/11/05. Aircraft quite new and thanks to being seated in one of two emergency exit rows, lots of leg room. Despite travelling on a low cost airline, you nevertheless are served a snack consisting of sandwich, cake, fruit juice, water, coffee or tea. On the downside, the passenger next to me was allowed boarding in a clearly less than sober state, and the crew continued to serve him hard liquor throughout the flight (alcoholic beverages available on a for sale basis). He even managed to complete the entire flight without ever having availed of the seat belt. Also, despite being a non-smoking flight, crew were quite relaxed at seeing the lavatories being used continuously as smoking rooms - with the obvious and objectionable result of extremely bad air quality in the cabin throughout the flight. (This aircraft was the first one AIX got)

Air India Express has aircrafts but not pilots...before Sahara-9W merger AI paid sahara pilots more n recruited them to IX but sahara took them back by payin more so now no pilots (shortage i mean)

It wasn't about the pilot issue.

Not at all.

Just about how even a new low cost carrier, that is a little different, as it offers an adequate and decent -sized free meal has to degenerate into another sloppy  carrier.

Being low cost doesn't mean you have filthy aircraft. A look at the tenders floated by Air India Express for cabin cleaning services seemed to be as stringnet as it would be for a full service carrier.

So was hoping for comments on those lines.

They will get their act together.

Aikr Arabis is already flying daily into COK - AIX major base on a daily basis. Next I guess will be Jazeera and Air Asia into MAA from KUL.

Air Asia not yet - but soom I guess. Problem is they have India's airlines as well as MH trying to block them.

Hmm, looks like AI/IA and Malaysian Airlines have a cartel here. Air Asia is going great guns in Malaysia and Thailand it services to India would be a real money-spinner!

Wonder how long before Air Asia overcomes this pressure

Yes But then MH has gone thru fair bit of its own problems and now executing a massive cost cutting strategy to survive. They eventually realised that all domestic services in their network apart from few main destinations were loss making. Hence Malaysia Airlines (MH) now codeshares with Air Asia on those flights and are now concentrating on the international routes..

Secondly now i guess the level playing feild has come into place because Air Asia being a LCC had to shift to the LCC terminal developed at KLIA which is much more plane jane compared to the original terminal which is used by the full service carriers. Intially everyone used to use the normal one...

So now there is difference in service and experience right according to the prices u pay from your pocket. There were plans for AIX starting MAA-KUL flights any clues as to when is that happening...
