Experience with customs while returning to India
Permalink Closed

They say that Customs in India is much less strict than it was in the past. Nowadays they don't seem to question much while returning.
But it seems that all incoming check-in baggage is X-rayed. I had travelled from DEL to LON and back recently at the height of the liquid bomb scare, when there were severe restrictions on hand baggage. So I put a video camera in the check-in baggage. Nothing happened at the London end, but while returning to India I was asked to open the suitcase. Fortunately I had the receipt for the camera which had been purchased in India.
As there are many frequent travellers on this group, I wonder if anyone had a similar experience with Customs at Delhi in the past few years. Anyway, I guess that the major restrictions on hand baggage are now over (except for large amounts of liquids) so such items can now be carried in hand baggage.

More information can be had from the customs site.

They carry regular updates about limit and the suggested items which are duty free and dutiable.

That should lessen your stress
