Deleting posts in Civil Av forum
Permalink Closed

Team - FYI:

One of the threads (http://www.activeboard.com/forum.spark?forumID=83591&p=3&topicID=7682829) had a series of posts that were a result of a mis-understanding.

I have gone ahead and deleted the unrelated content in the posts, and now the thread is "cleaned up".

Any inputs on whether that's the preferred way to deal with the situation? Or would you recommend some other route (either leave it all as is, or delete the entire thread)?

I would like to suggest that the test of the whole matter should be whether the posters are genuine declared known  . . . or . . . anonymous unknowns.

Censorship if at all needs to be done to and as equals. Otherwise it is simply unjust.

One person who is anonymous makes a provocative and incorrect statement.

Another person who is not anonymous takes the trouble to engage and retort.

The moderators treat both as equals.

Something wrong in that equation.

Ah - great - I see you did cross post to this forum as well. Thank you!

Malik - I now see where you're coming from (in your other site related thread on anonymous vs. known users).

To the point on treating anonymous sources differently from "known" sources, the only thing I'll say is that on this forum, we're all anonymous (despite my publishing my name, but as there's no check to see if it's really me in flesh that's opened this account, the bottom line is that all are anonymous).

Hence any moderation is done only based on the posts being made, and not on the person or handle used.

I fail to see how or why any moderation needs to take into account the handle being used to post the messages. That we cannot verify the background to each handle is a given.

Hence the censorship was done (and will be done) with both being treated as equals - both are anonymous as far as I'm concerned, the only thing that I'm certain of is what each person has actually posted.

The cross posting was a genuine error, and thank you for editing it out.

Censorship is and will be done by moderators, fair enough, as they see fit.

ActiveBoard is actually a supersmart system, look, it detected that the place pilots sit in - the cockpit is actually a bad word!!

Ridiculous system if you ask me, but can't complain much given the price we're paying

The Correct term is the Control Cabin.

Seriously speaking.Isn't there an Exception Table that can be Incorporated to permit such words in this Forum.
